I think the Porsche GT3 RS vs. Mercedes-AMG GT R debate is a pretty cut and dry one. One is like going to the symphony, while other is going to a rock concert. Both have their places and can be highly entertaining, and neither is in any way not a totally fulfilling machine. Of course the RS is the symphony with its precision skills and nearly flawless execution of nearly everything you can throw at it. While the GT R is the rock concert with its thrashing handling, roaring sound, and wildness that will keep you up to the edge and maybe even over it if you aren’t careful. Which would I chose? Oh man.

Every time I see one of these on the used market, I am shocked how much they have depreciated. If you didn’t spend $10,000 on a special color or go crazy with the other options, you could take one of these home for $175,000 when they were new. The 991.2 RS? Bring $190,000 to start and keep going. Most had tens of thousands in options without even trying, so this was easily well over $200,000 without trying. Now, your floor is about $185,000 for a used RS, while the GT R? Well, $125,000 takes this one home. You even get the pricey carbon-ceramic brakes.
To me, for the price, this is not a question. However, money is no object? That 4.0-liter from Weissach is awfully temping. I am curious about where the floor on these GT Rs will end up being. They are still in production with a bunch of iterations, and the GT R Pro is now the king of the hill for the this platform. Will they creep towards $100,000? Maybe. I do think they have legs to go down a little further, but I don’t think these will ever be $85,000 cars. If so, sign me up for Green Hell Magno.
